Señor Juan Bar & Bistro | Dumaguete City

Señor Juan Bar & Bistro

The quaint place of Señor Juan Bar & Bistro is a definite gastronomic destination in Dumaguete. Though currently renting out a relatively small space at EJ Blanco drive, Senor Juan Bar and Bistro packs large flavors in its food.

The Dumagueteneo Team went to visit the place to try out their best sellers and their new dishes and the team was indeed blown away that Dumaguete has been graced with restaurants like Senor Juan Bar and Bistro that have mastered their craft of flavorful passionate cooking. Senor Juan prepares their food with particular attention using only fresh and natural ingredients available in the Dumaguete community. Tourists and locals who’ve chanced upon this resto became regular patrons who now look forward to their next Senor Juan meal.

The team was there to experience just how good Senor Juan cooking was and got there excited as the food slowly began streaming in and filling the table space. Indeed, like one customer before us has said, ‘There’s nothing quite like a Senor Juan spread.’ The aromas of the food, the impeccable design of the place, and the enticing plating makes your mouth water and gets you excited for a meal you already know will be a great experience.

For the team, the Senor Juan spread was comprised of their bestselling Beef Brisket, Sizzling Gambas, Miguel’s Crazy Hot Wings, Tuyo Pasta, the famous Senor Juan Chistorra, their Sizzling Bread Pudding, and the bestselling Paco Ensalada. The owners, couple Ina Villanueva and Khim Sevilla, shared how Senor Juan journeyed from being a food cart at a bazaar at the Blue Monkey Grill to eventually start their own restaurant from homemade recipes that have been enjoyed by their families. Their Sizzling Brown Pudding was Senor Juan’s way of rasing the experience of the usual brownie a la mode. Using French bread, topped with ice cream and surrounded by sizzling caramel sauce, this wholesome dessert will give you cravings you never knew you wanted until now. Same goes for their Beef Brisket; somehow, Senor Juan has mastered this dish to perfection, giving you beef so tender that fills your mouth with incredible flavors. The Sizzling Gambas from this restaurant is also cooked with Senor Juan’s method of satisfying goodness. It gives you a mouthful of distinctive Spanish flavors that surprisingly aren’t overpowering.

Tuyo Pasta

Senor Juan is also the only resto in Dumaguete serving Tuyo Pasta, one of the new dishes that the bar and bistro has placed on their menu. This unique dish uses tuyo or dried fish that are sourced locally. It’s a complex dish to carry out factoring in the saltiness and dryness of the tuyo but Senor Juan pulled it off serving it with sundried tomatoes and kesong puti. This resto brings to the table a new gourmet flavour of the local delicacy of tuyo or bulad.

Miguel’s Crazy Hot Wings is also a commendable dish for families, barkadas, or if you just decided to reward yourself with an indulgent meal! You can’t also leave the restaurant without first having a taste of their Chistorra, Senor Juan’s most prized premium Spanish Chorizo. Us in Dumagueteneo promises you happy tastebuds and a fully satisfied tummy with all the dishes we mentioned above. And to end the meal, we absolutely recommend their bestselling Paco Ensalada, their salad delicacy that uses ferns and pomelo unlike the usual salad ingredients that you know. It uses fresh ferns from the nearby Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao and Danao. This salad is an experience on its own that you have to try at least one bite to get you addicted.

We conclude that Senor Juan Bar and Bistro is a definite go-to place to treat yourself to wholesome quality goodness. Everything is rich with flavors all coming together to bring you the perfect meal. As the restaurant’s saying goes,

“Whatever you’re craving for, there’s always something for you to enjoy at Señor Juan.”
